Farming

Farming in New Zealand is export driven.
Whether its meat, dairy, forestry or wine and fruit, our favourable climatic conditions give us the edge at producing a good product at a reasonable price.
Each area of New Zealand has it's own specialised product e.g. wine in Hawkes Bay and Marlborough, sheep in Canterbury, dairying in north of North Island and south of South Island. Forestry does well in most parts.
Kauri Coast farming these days, is mostly dairying, beef and forestry. A few sheep on the higher parts, though sheep numbers have declined in the north over recent years.
The subtropical climate enables grass and plant growth almost year round. Some areas experience slight frosts. Drought has become less of a problem over recent years due to changing weather patterns.
Please read our blog posts about farming below and feel free to make comments and ask questions about our farmstay or farming in New Zealand.

Another Day in Paradise

31st July 2008 Omamari, 24kms Northwest Dargaville, Northland, New Zealand. Very wet after the Big Storm of last night. Though we are not as badly off as many around New Zealand today.
